The role

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is looking for an Adviser to guide and support the implementation of the Health Department’s National Health Strategic Plan 2016-20. This plan drives the Government of Nauru’s commitment to deliver better quality health services for the people of Nauru with renewed focus on preventative and primary healthcare.  

This role is expected to commence in November 2017, for a period of 12 months.


Key objectives:

  • Support all day to day operations of the hospital and wellness centres
  • Contribute to the effective management of Nauru’s Health Services and the achievement of priority health outcomes through an effective, high quality operational service delivery as part of the Senior Management Team
  • Build local capacity in operations management


Selection criteria:

  • Relevant undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in one or more of: Health Service Administration; Health Service Planning or Health Service Financial Management
  • Demonstrated high level experience (more than 10 years) and record of success in areas of health service management and delivery, covering both public health and curative health service
  • Demonstrated understanding of how hospital services interrelate with community based services
  • Demonstrated skills in capacity building of middle and senior level health positions
  • Highly developed analytical skills in evidence-based strategic planning, financial planning, policy development and policy implementation in a health context
  • Demonstrated experience in working in resource poor and resource challenged environments with evidence of success in project management and co-ordination
  • Understanding of operations of a health service
