The role

The key purpose of the National NCD Strategy Implementation Adviser is to provide technical and strategic support to Tonga Health Promotion Foundation (Tonga Health) and its stakeholders in implementing the NCD Strategy. You will be accountable to, and managed by CEO of Tonga Health.

 This role is expected to commence in January 2019 for a period of 5 months.

 

Key objectives:

• Provide technical advice on NCDs
• Build and maintain relationships to support implementation of the NCD Strategy
• Provide operational and technical support to Tonga Health
• Support Tonga Health in high quality monitoring, evaluation, reporting and research in support of the National NCD strategy and the annual workplan
• Support appropriate consideration of cross-cutting issues including:
• Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (including people with disabilities)
• Child protection
• Fraud control
• Climate change and disaster risk in NCD policies and programs

 

Selection criteria:

Essential

 

Skills, experience, knowledge

• Experience in developing and implementing evidence-based public health and health promotion policies and/or programs, preferably in a Pacific island country or other similar setting.
• Experience in managing people and budgets to develop and implement work plans including administration of grants or contracts.
• Experience in developing and maintaining respectful and productive cross-cultural relationships, and ability to convey complex ideas in plain English.
• Understanding of the importance of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion in NCDs and the ability to integrate these into high quality policy and programs.

 

Qualifications

• Post-graduate qualifications in public health or other relevant field, or equivalent international health experience.

 

Desirable

• Experience in building partnerships and coalitions to support health outcomes through cross-sectoral action.
• Experience in working in developing country environments and low capacity health systems, ideally in the Pacific.
