New Britain Palm Oil Limited (NBPOL) is a large-scale integrated, and leading industrial producer of sustainable palm oil, sugar and beef in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
The NBPOL Group has over 90,000 hectares of planted oil palm plantations, a further 10,000 hectares under preparation for oil palm, over 5,500 hectares of sugar cane and a further 9,000 hectares of grazing pasture, twelve oil mills, two refineries (one in PNG, and one in Liverpool, UK), as well as a seed production and plant breeding facility.
Fully RSPO accredited, NBPOL is fully vertically integrated, producing its own seed (which it also sells globally), planting, cultivating and harvesting its own land and processing and refining palm oil, in both PNG and the UK. It also contracts directly with its end-customers in the EU and arranges the shipping of its products.
NBPOL is now seeking a Sugar Agricultural Manager to join their team in Ramu, Papua New Guinea on a full time basis.
Reporting to the General Manager, this position is primarily responsible for overseeing the efficient production and harvesting of 350,000 tons of rain fed sugar cane from a 7,000 ha growing area.
Your key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
COVID-19 Update: NBPOL is prepared to help the successful candidate with relocation to Ramu, Papua New Guinea. In light of current COVID restrictions on international travel, this may involve assistance with quarantining upon arrival in PNG for candidates applying internationally.
To be considered for this role, you must have extensive experience in large-scale Estate Agriculture, including demonstrable experience with sugar cane.
Ideally, you will hold a tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Agronomy or Agricultural Engineering, though this is not essential, provided you are able to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities needed to operate successfully at a senior management level.
You will need to have strong interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with a range of stakeholders on a daily basis. You will be overseeing a large and diverse team, who you must be able to lead and motivate to ensure effective employee engagement and consistent performance against set targets. Your ability to influence outcomes through clear direction will be essential to your success in this role.
Importantly, you must be commercially savvy with sound financial acumen and the ability to support the overall strategic growth of the business.
Though not required, previous experience living/working in a remote location will be beneficial. You will need to demonstrate cultural sensitivity day-to-day when interacting with employees and external stakeholders alike.
